Scott Snyder Photography

I am Scott Snyder, a fine art landscape photographer based in Henniker, New Hampshire. My images focus on the continually changing beauty of rural New England, with a concentration in New Hampshire. I try to capture the essence of my momentary experience in the natural world. My hope is to present a unique vision and emotion through my images.

I studied photography in high school and was a student at the Art Institute of Atlanta in the 1980s. I was passionate about documenting the rural south and the rapid social changes happening there. But as often happens, the busyness of life got in the way and my photography fell by the wayside.
.
After moving to central New Hampshire in 2006, my passion for photography was reawakened. As a frustrated land-locked surfer, I turned my energy back to a prior love of hiking. I picked up a camera to document my explorations. Quickly, those trips became more about photography than the hike.
.
Often my subject is the mysterious and unexpected beauty of the ordinary landscape – the bog down the road or the small patch of woods in a local neighborhood. I bear witness to what I’m photographing as a sort of active meditation.
.
Photography has become a vehicle for me to become more present in nature. I hope my work can bring a sense of that quiet presence to others. I want to portray a sense of the beauty and wonder – the ordinarily miraculous – surrounding us.

I market my artwork under the logo Rock, Water and Light. The name came from the photographic blog I started with my wife in 2007 – highlighting the elements that most draw my attention.
