Jim Block teaches photography, publishes his work in books and magazines, has fine art prints in numerous private collections, does commercial photography for a variety of clients, photographs families and weddings, and occasionally exhibits his work at various venues. He enjoys photographing almost anything but has a particular love for the natural world.
Jim has had photos on the covers of various magazines, books, and calendars including: Down East magazine and beaches guide, Wildlife Journal, Northern Woodlands, Upper Valley Life, Kearsarge, Home Improvement, Kid Stuff, Forest Notes, National Home Gardening books and calendars (sole photographer for “Flower Portraits” and “Color of Flowers” calendars), Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests calendar, Natural New England, and the Loon Preservation Committee (NH) 25th and 30th Anniversary Reports.
He regularly provides assignment and stock photography for a number of regional magazines. Jim was the sole photographer for the four versions of the Connecticut River Birding Trail Map and Guide.
Jim has exhibited his work multiple times at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and New Hampshire Audubon. He has also exhibited at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Conservation Center in Concord, and numerous other locations.
Six to eight photo courses are taught by Jim each year in his Hanover, NH studio. He occasionally leads individual and small-group photo workshops in Northern New England and gives nature and travel photo shows.
